Hendy Irawan Parama... I've been wondering this for so long: In Indonesia fasting is about 14 hours. But in some countries the sun sets/rises earlier or later, sometimes significantly.. and in some places in north/south poles I think they don't even set/rise at all, depending on season. Does this mean the fasting duration varies across places?
And second, how do astronauts fast on the orbiting space station ? Do they just pick an arbitrary timezone on Earth as a baseline?

Parama Danoesubroto: yes hendy, fasting is different on every point on earth, and depending on the seasons too.
For example, right now in North America, fasting is from 5am to 9:30pm.
The more you go north, closer to the north pole, one "day", is one year.
You see the sun for 6 months and you see the moon for 6 month. it's called the midnight sun.
If that's the case, you choose the closest point that represents a real day, and just use their prayer/fasting time :)
I'm not a scholar, but, I think it's similar if we're an astronaut
